May 27 hearing on a proposed rate increase for the Helix Water District will go forward despite complaints from residents on large lots who say the new rate structure is unfair to them. Helix officials say the increase, which would go into effect July 1, will average about 22 percent more, but large property owners say their water bills will be much higher than that. The board will vote on the new rate structure after next month’s public hearing.

CHULA VISTA: The city of Chula Vista’s Animal Care Facility is holding a pet food donation drive to support animals at the city’s only shelter.
The community is being asked to donate new, unopened containers of pet food through May 31. Collection bins have been placed at seven locations throughout the city, including all Chula Vista public libraries, the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility, 130 Beyer Way, City Hall and Montevalle and Veterans’ Park recreation centers.
